My excitement is building as we are days away from September. This is my favorite time of the year. I like the weather, the routine, the return and the renewed desire to be more engaged in the life of the church. I am a pastor and I live for the Bride. Obviously, I mean that in more than one way but here I am thinking about the church. There’s nothing like the church; when the church is fulfilling her purpose the world is changed. I am enthusiastic about God’s plans for the church… called New Harvest!
God’s Word says: “Be very careful, then how you live — not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.” How? “Be filled with the Spirit.” (Ephesians 5:15-18) These have always been inspiring and challenging words for me. I have studied them thoroughly and believe they point to the mission and purpose of the church and are for all of us who follow Christ.
The subject in Ephesians 5 is “living as children of the light.” There is much darkness in our world and we are called to shine light. We do that through the power of the Holy Spirit who enables us to “make the most of every opportunity.” Our God has a mission and He has commissioned us with this purpose to shine light. His will is for us to live wisely in such a way that our lives are attractive so that our message is believed. These possibilities are on the forefront of our minds as we launch into this fall season. We are on a mission.
To accomplish our mission we have a plethora of opportunities which we intend to utilize to the fullest. Here’s what to anticipate as we launch into September: Expanded Outreach to Hallman Elementary; Community Groups get a jump start;Sunday Evening Worship Concert; Love & Logic for Parents; “Greater Than” Sermon Series; A Vision Worth Pursuing; Family Ministries for Kiddos and Students refueled; Harvest Party for Everyone; Mentoring Workshop led by Prison Fellowship; and a Women’s Breakfast.
Pray with me that we will make the most of this fall season for the mission. What excites you about the fall season?
